Making a Car Insurance Claim

Whenever something happens to your car that results in damages such as an accident or even an act of vandalism, you will have to make an insurance claim. There are certain things you will need in order to make a claim. You will need good photographs and a police report as well as all of the info from the other driver, if in fact there is another driver involved in the incident. You will also need to see what your insurance policy says about renting a car and getting reimbursed for the occasions in which your car may be rendered undrivable. To make an insurance claim the first thing you need to do id go down to your local police department and get a copy of the police report. These can be obtained at the records department and there is usually a fee of anywhere from one dollar to five dollars depending on how extensive the report is and how many pages it contains.
After that you will call your insurance company and ask to speak to someone in the claims department. If you do business with a large insurance company keep in mind that you may experience really long hold times so be sure and do this when you have a fair amount of time to spend. This is not something you want to attempt to take care of when you are pressed for time such as in the morning before work or on your lunch break. You will want to deal with your insurance claim on a day off or when you have at least a full hour to dedicate to the process.
